What is behind the Machinery Regulation 2027
The new European Machinery Regulation will apply from 20.01.2027. It replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and introduces stricter obligations for design, software, documentation and safety certificates. It is a paradigm shift: responsibility, liability and conformity are being redefined. Anyone who plans, builds or operates machinery must act now.
Responsibility applies everyone.
The Machinery Regulation affects not only manufacturers but also decision-makers, project managers, programmers, purchasers, safety officers, and operators alike. Anyone involved in the project shares responsibility for ensuring compliance.
For managing directors
Keep your product competitive with smart, compliant processes.
For technical managers
Design your control systems to be efficient, transparent and future-proof.
For purchasing
Optimize your supplier selection and ensure the conformity of your projects.
For programmers
Create clean, comprehensible code that makes your work easier.
For compliance officers
Simplify compliance with legal standards without additional effort.
Ignoring the Machinery Regulation? It could be costly.
Without compliance, CE marking is not possible, and without CE marking, market access is denied. Product liability and potential legal consequences may also apply. Anyone initiating projects today must be able to prove compliance – or implement retrofits later.
Legally compliant with the Selmo method.
Selmo uses model-based programming to create a documented logic structure that automatically meets the necessary requirements of the Machinery Regulation. Every status, every action is traceable. The result: clarity, safety, control - for people, machines and the law.
Using model-based programming, Selmo generates a fully documented logic structure that automatically fulfills all Machinery Regulation requirements. Every state and action is traceable. The result: clarity, safety, and control – for operators, machines, and regulatory compliance.

Frequently asked questions
-
When does the Machinery Regulation become mandatory?
The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 has been in force since July 19, 2023, with full application required from January 20, 2027. Utilize the transition period effectively to ensure your control systems and documentation are fully compliant and legally sound.
-
What applies to ongoing projects?
From January 20, 2027, all machines and systems must fully comply with the requirements of the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 when placed on the market or commissioned - with no exceptions. This applies not only to new machines, but also to retrofits and modifications to existing systems.
-
Which documents are mandatory?
In addition to standard technical documentation, Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 now requires detailed proof for control system software, including:
-
Complete and fully traceable software documentation
-
Risk assessments that cover software-related risks
-
Evidence of formal verification and validation of the control software
-
Documentation of versioning and change tracking
-
Declaration of conformity, which also adresses software aspects
These requirements ensure that control software is transparent, safe and verifiable.
-
-
Who is liable in case of an incident?
Liability lies with all those responsible along the supply and value chain - from manufacturers to project managers and managing directors, particularly in the event of regulatory or duty violations.
